In a joint effort to enhance natural tourism in the municipality, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), together with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and the Municipal Tourism Office of Kitaotao, conducted an assessment activity at Basak Cave, located in Sitio Basak, Sinuda, Kitaotao, Bukidnon, last July 4, 2024.
The activity aimed to evaluate the cave's environmental status, safety, accessibility, and potential as a tourist destination. Basak Cave, known for its natural charm and rich biodiversity, holds great promise as an eco-tourism site. Through this initiative, the local government intends to protect and preserve the cave’s natural features while gradually developing it into a safe, educational, and enjoyable site for both local and foreign visitors.
The collaborative assessment involved technical inspection, biodiversity checks, and discussions on how to ensure that future developments will align with environmental protection laws and sustainable tourism practices. It also served as a venue for inter-agency coordination, recognizing that both ecological protection and tourism promotion must go hand-in-hand.
This milestone underscores the municipality’s proactive steps in positioning Kitaotao as a green destination in Northern Mindanao, offering unique experiences grounded in nature, culture, and conservation. With proper planning and continued support from key agencies, Basak Cave may soon become a must-visit site, contributing to local livelihood, environmental education, and pride in the community’s natural heritage.
The LGU of Kitaotao remains committed to giving its 100% in supporting natural tourism — proving that development and conservation can coexist for the benefit of both people and the planet.
